Roman Abramovich quits as governor, builds new home in Moscow
BILLIONAIRE Roman Abramovich has resigned as governor of a remote Siberian province - amid claims he plans to move into a new luxury home.
The 41-year-old Chelsea owner asked to step down from his post in Russia’s sparsely-populated Chukotka Autonomous District near Alaska.
His request was approved by President Dmitry Medvedev, the Kremlin said yesterday.
Meanwhile Abramovich, with a reported £11.6billion fortune, is said to be building a new mansion to share with 25-year-old girlfriend Daria Zhukova.
The 17,000 sq metre site is in Moscow’s upmarket Skolkovo area, where land costs £4million an acre.
