26 September, 2008 (09:18) | Palestine/Middle East | vercingetorix

GAZA, Sept 26 (KUNA) — Israeli police said Friday that it would impose strict procedures for the entry of Muslims into Jerusalem to perform the Friday noon prayers, the last during the current holy month of Ramadan, at Al-Aqsa Mosque.

A spokesperson for Radio Israel said that accordingly, married men between the ages of 45 and 50 had to obtain special permits to enter the mosque, while those above the age of 50 were exempted.
Married women aged 35 to 40 also require a permit, while those over 40 could enter the mosque without the permission slip, the spokesperson added.
Last Friday, thousands of policemen were deployed in different areas of Jerusalem, and military checkpoints prevented tens of thousands of Palestinians from reaching Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Also, no residents of the Gaza Strip were allowed access to the holy mosque, under the strict siege imposed on the area.
